The Johnson Brothers started making ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent in 1882. Now the fourth and fifth generation of that family have formed 1882 Ltd to champion innovative ceramic designers. Faye Toogood's Indigo Rain adds a touch of contemporary flair to the homely familiarity of blue-and-white striped crockery. Broad painterly stripes of deep blue glaze are applied to rough canvas and then transferred to the pieces. With subtly different stripes for every plate, bowl and cup, each piece is unique.

Formed in 2011 by Emily Johnson with her father Christopher, the design-led ceramics brand 1882 Ltd takes its name from the year that four of their ancestors (Alfred, Frederick, Henry and Robert) formed the pottery firm Johnson Brothers in Stoke-on-Trent.
