The Johnson Brothers started making ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent in 1882. Now the fourth and fifth generation of that family have formed 1882 Ltd to champion innovative ceramic designers. Max Lamb is known for creating beautifully crafted pieces. His bone chine tableware, cast from moulds carved by hand using traditional stone-mason tools, has a glazed interior for functionality and a paper-white raw ('biscuit') exterior that is intriguing and pleasing in equal measure.

About 1882 Ltd
Formed in 2011 by Emily Johnson with her father Christopher, the design-led ceramics brand 1882 Ltd takes its name from the year that four of their ancestors (Alfred, Frederick, Henry and Robert) formed the pottery firm Johnson Brothers in Stoke-on-Trent.
