Ellen Mae Williams, a textile designer based in the Cotswolds uses sustainable and traditional textile methods to create her naturally hand-dyed and hand-painted linen fabrics. Her philosophy is to produce work that reflects the natural landscape, keeping aesthetics simple yet thoughtful - letting the haphazard beauty of natural dyeing and mark making emerge. Her natural palette is created from onion skins, madder root and logwood.

Nature informs much of what textiles maker, designer and artist, Ellen Williams creates, specifically, the Oxfordshire landscape in which she grew up. Abstract artists including Gerhard Richter and Mark Rothko also inspire her work. A BA in textiles prompted an exploration of natural dyeing and colours that she could whip up in her kitchen. Ellen discovered that avocado skins and stones produced a beautiful muted pink shade and experimented with kitchen waste such as onion skins and coffee granules.
