Maria Sigma, an award-winning textile designer who was recently the inaugural artist-maker-in-residence at Hauser & Wirth, Somerset, uses the ancient craft of weaving to create contemporary textiles for the home. Her aim is to create ‘zero waste’ pieces, celebrating the slow making process which results in unique items that are designed to last. Her new collection, ‘Apricity’, showcases her favourite bespoke weaving pattern, the Ariadne diamond, which produces a richly textured finish.
“It’s important to me to use undyed wool, because it means less waste. The dyeing process takes a lot of water and electricity, and undyed fabrics are much less toxic and more sustainable. My products are for the home, and I like the fact that they’re both functional and natural.”Visit Designer Page
