“The life that one leads is nothing much, but the life that one dreams of, that’s the great existence, because it will continue beyond death," so wrote Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, the iconic designer and devourer of books from Sophocles to Shakespeare. Culture Chanel’s ‘The Woman who Reads’ celebrates the doyenne’s dedication to the written word with an exhibition of objects taken from Chanel’s home at 31 rue Cambon, including books from her library, artworks and, of course, fashion.

'Culture Chanel: The Woman Who Reads' runs until 8 January 2017 at the Ca' Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, Venice
