Ceramicist Kathy Erteman embraces the principles of Mingei, “hand-crafted art of ordinary people”, in her sculptural vessels. Her innovative glazing process uses a limited but luminous palette, to which texture and pattern are added. The kiln firing lends exciting, unexpected qualities to the pieces.
These pieces are not intended for utilitarian use.

“My work has very simple lines, and it’s both modern and rustic. It’s tactile, calming, and I would say it’s open to interpretation. When I make functional pieces, I want them to be a sculptural form, but also to be a backdrop to what they contain – friendly to food, friendly to flowers.”
